Key Fob Suddenly Not Working? Try These Checks First

Suddenly non-working fob seems to be a pretty expensive issue, but actually, fixing such problems may cost you absolutely nothing. Before buying a new fob, consider a few basic solutions that may help you to get your device working again. understand the differences

Start from the battery

The lack of power provided by the coin cell battery will cause a significant range decrease; thus, you may notice a need to approach closer in order to activate the fob. Phoenix heat is known to kill batteries quite easily, so a fob that loses power in hot season is most likely to need a new battery.

Look for damages

Fobs that were either dropped or washed are usually damaged. Check for cracks on the board and a stuck button. Open the case and remove any corrosion or loose battery contact before jumping to the conclusions.

Try reprogramming

There is another reason why a fob might become unresponsive – loss of pairing between a fob and a vehicle. There is always a procedure listed in a vehicle’s owner manual, and going through it might restore functionality to your device without any new batteries or buttons required.

If the doors lock but a car doesn’t start

It means that the issue with the fob is not in its button functions but lies with the transponder chip, it can loose its connection to the vehicle’s immobilizer, you can finfd more on the subject in our guide: transponder vs. regular key guide explains the difference, and smart key owners can read the push to start guide.

Time to call our assistance

In case anything of the above is not helping, it is possible that your fob requires replacement, and an already replaced fob needs coding anyway because an off-the-counter device must be cut and programmed to work.
