In order to turn the ignition or respond to remote commands from a key, today’s car requires authentication of a chip or transponder fob. When this authentication fails, it is time to re-program your key, and this service is carried out at the site of your vehicle rather than inside a dealer’s office.

Fob causing troubles? Try this first
If your remote is dead, it doesn’t necessarily need programming to fix it. It may just need a battery change, checking for signs of liquid or shock damage, and then a simple syncing process to get it going again. These solutions are explained in our article here about what to do if your remote fob isn’t working anymore. If that isn’t enough, then it may be due for programming.
Not sure about what kind of key you have?
If you purchase your fob online it needs programming first, because fob that you buy online are usually not cut or programmed until you bring them into our shop to have the fob blade cut and programmed.
What will happen during our technician visit?
- We determine the type of your key and make sure that you own or can gain access to the vehicle.
- We program the key when the key fob is new or needs to be duplicated.
- We program the fob, chip, or smart key for the security system of your car.
- We check each button and perform a start cycle.
Key fob programming FAQs
My fob died, could it just be the battery?
Quite often, indeed. Put in a new battery and see if there’s any visible damage, if it still doesn’t work, it requires syncing or replacing, either way we’ll do it right there on the spot.
Can you program a fob I ordered online?
Absolutely. Online fob has to be programmed and synchronized with your vehicle first, and then it will start doing its job. That’s two jobs that we’ll do at once.
Can you program push-to-start smart keys?
Absolutely. We program proximity smart keys from many brands so that your car will recognize them when necessary.
Doors unlock but the car won’t start, why?
This means that most probably there is an issue with the transponder and not the remote control part, the reason is that the transponder chip isn’t coded to the immobilizer, which is not a problem, because we’ll program it for you.
